Open Position: Loan Officer

Job Summary: Seeking an experienced and member our team. In this role, you will guide applicants through the loan application process, evaluate creditworthiness, and recommend loan products that meet member needs while aligning with organizational policies. Alongside managing delinquent loan accounts, minimizing financial loss, and helping members find workable solutions to bring their loan accounts current. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, personable, and knowledgeable about lending regulations and financial practices.
Job Details: The position is based at our Monmouth branch, located at 1176 Main Street Monmouth, ME 04259. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week from 8am-5pm.
- Meet with loan applicants to gather personal and financial information.
- Analyze credit reports, income documents, and financial statements to determine creditworthiness.
- Recommend suitable loan products based on member needs and financial standing.
- Guide borrowers through the application process and ensure all required documentation is complete.
- Present and explain loan options, terms, rates, and repayment plans clearly and professionally.
- Submit complete loan applications for underwriting approval.
- Monitor and manage a portfolio of delinquent loan accounts.
- Contact members to resolve past-due balances.
- Negotiate repayment plans, settlements, or extensions that align with company policies and member capabilities.
- Educate members on the consequences of delinquency and available options.
- Conduct professional, empathetic and compliant conversations with members to understand financial challenges.
- Recommend accounts for escalation to legal collections, repossession, or charge-off when necessary.
- Maintain strong knowledge of lending regulations, compliance standards, and internal policies.
- Build and maintain relationships with realtors, builders, and other referral partners.
- Meet or exceed sales targets, conversion rates, and member satisfaction goals.
- Track applications, follow up on open items, and provide proactive communication throughout the loan process.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current on industry trends and product offerings.

- High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or related field preferred.
- Proven experience as a loan officer, mortgage consultant, or similar role.
- Strong understanding of lending procedures and relevant regulations (e.g., RESPA, TILA).
- Experience with loan origination software and collection systems.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, interpersonal, and customer‑service skills.
- Strong analytical and decision‑making abilities.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- The ability to obtain an NMLS licensure (for mortgage-focused roles).
